During times of crisis, the ability to act and think quickly is key.
So how do we prepare?
Challenge complacency.
If we’ve been fortunate enough to avoid tragedy, we might fall victim to the “it will never happen to us” train of thought. The problem with this is that when crisis hits, it often does so with little or no warning. You probably won’t see it coming.
Consider risk.
It can be overwhelming to consider potential risks, and this can stop us from worrying about it at all. It may not seem worth it, but preparing ahead means we will be less likely to be paralyzed by shock if the worst occurs.
Plan.
Planning contributes to a sense of mental freedom. It is the ability to know that we have considered threats and thought through how we are going to manage them should they ever come up. We don’t have to have all the answers, but basic prep can provide peace of mind.
Gather resources.
Where we are uncertain or lacking support, we can seek tools and resources that fill in the gaps. When a crisis happens, there is no time to seek out new things, we must rely on what we already know or can access quickly.
Prepare.
Rehearse new skills until they become more familiar. Overcome resistance to practice by remembering that in crisis situations, the stress response takes over. We need to be able to counteract any dulling of our capabilities by ingraining actions.
Share.
Make sure others understand the plans and know how to access resources. Make information available, update as needed, and consider going back over them annually. Be sure physical items and guide materials are clearly marked, labeled and easy to get to.
We support you to prepare for crisis in two ways-
Who we are
The “E’s” in E3 Contracting LLC, don’t stand for essential emergency education, though that is one of our aims.
The “E’s” represent our kids: Eleanor, Everett and Emmett.
The people we are responsible for protecting are what motivate us to action when complacency- and leaving planning for another day- tries to set in.
And we are dedicated to providing you with what you need to protect the people that matter to you.
What we believe
We believe that good in the world is powerful when it comes through us.
When we feel hopeless or powerless, it is worth remembering that it is through the small actions, “chopping wood and carrying water”, that life moves forward.
